AN38.1-3 | Introduction to Larynx

Learning Objectives

  • Describe the morphology, identify structure of the wall, nerve supply, blood supply, and actions of intrinsic and extrinsic muscles of the larynx (AN38.1)
  • Describe the anatomical aspects of laryngitis (AN38.2)
  • Describe the anatomical basis of recurrent laryngeal nerve injury (AN38.3)

INSTRUCTIONS

This module covers the anatomy of the larynx with emphasis on the cartilages, muscles, nerve supply, and their clinical applications. The recurrent laryngeal nerve injury during thyroid and thoracic surgery is the most common clinical application. Master the laryngoscopic anatomy — it is tested repeatedly in clinical examinations.
